Is your garage door ready for winter?

The winter months can be stressful on your residential garage door. It’s always recommended to perform a stress test on your door before it gets too cold outside. There are a few ways to do this, but be sure to inform your family and friends who may use the garage door before you begin to perform these tests to ensure safety.

1) Stand inside your garage and visually inspect the different elements of the garage door system. Check the cables, rollers, springs and pulleys for signs of damage.

2) Manually open and close the garage door multiple times. The door should open and close smoothly and without hindrance. If it is difficult to open or close properly, it may be time to call Denver Garage Door Repairman for a free inspection. This should be done on an annual basis.

3) Test the photo eye to ensure proper functionality. This can easily be done by opening the garage door and then closing it automatically. While the door is closing, move an object in front of the photo eye to be sure the garage door automatically re-opens.

NOTE: Residential garage doors built after January 1, 1993, are required by federal law to be equipped with a reversing mechanism and a photo eye or edge sensor for safety reasons. If your door does not have this mechanism, call Denver Garage Door Repairman to have the device installed immediately.
